(I figured that I'd just jump right in and get going.)
Vampires. Despicable creatures. Loathsome fiends. But Mortis was desperate to find one. He figured that Red Blood City would be a perfect place to look considering that there is never any sunlight here.
He was aware that he had to be careful. He looked human, smelled human and probably even tasted human! The creatures of the night that inhabited this city would see him as prey. Whats more, he had not used his powers for a considerable amount of time. But despite all that, he simply walked into the city as if it were any other. Eyes glared at him from the shadows. But searing hatred burned away all specks of fear.
Mortis had not ventured far from his usual hunting grounds for nearly a century, and so had very little knowledge of other areas of the land. He wondered where he should start looking. But then he figured that would take too long. Time was of the essence. Every day he spent looking increased the odds that Faran was dead. So he thought of a new plan. Extremely suicidal mind you, but fast.
He walked into the center of the city, went down an alleyway and produced a small plain knife he had stolen. He cut viciously into his own palm and let his mortal blood drip everywhere. Though his soul was supernatural, his body was mortal. His blood was the same as a humans. It smelled the same and tasted the same. This plan would definately work. There was no way a vampire could resist something like this. They would come running to feed on him. And that was exactly what he wanted.

Sylver had been perched on the edge of a building beside a gargoyle when the first smell of blood reached her senses. She gasped quietly at the potency in the smell of freshly drawn blood and closed her eyes in rapture. To her there was no greater sensation in the world. For Sylver was a vampire.
With effortless grace she dropped from her perch on the rooftop, falling four stories to the ground below. She landed in a crouch, making hardly any sound as she straightened up and headed towards the source of the blood.
Sylver entered the alleyway and was happy to find she was the first vampire to arrive on the scene. She saw perfectly in the dark and could make out the man who seemed to have cut himself. She had seen his type before, vampire wannabes. They flocked to Red Blood City in droves and ended up being nothing more than an all you can eat buffet to her kind.
Dressed like an old-world-goth in an ankle length dress and corset. Sylver's long, almost white, platinum blonde hair flowed out behind her in the wind. She smiled a seductive yet preadtory grin at the man as she approached. There was an excited gleam in her grey eyes as she imagined the taste of this man's blood.
"Hey there handsome." She said coyly, her smile revealing her fangs as they rested on her bottom lip. "You must be new in town, such a shame--" She tutted as she continued her slow approach. "-- for you atleast!"

Mortis turned towards the woman, obviously a vampire, as she spoke. She had a glimmer of lust in her eyes at the blood that dripped in rythm from his self inflicted wound. He grinned and threw the knife onto the floor.
"Yes, a shame indeed. Tell me, what is it you desire? Could it be this?"
He extended his cut palm towards her and grinned arrogantly.
"Do you hunger for the blood of a mortal? Well then, come and get it."
He unbuttoned his coat to reveal only his suit beneath. No weapons, no armor, no stakes, no garlic. Nothing. He extended his palm towards her again, this time flexing it to make it bleed more.
"Come on Bloodsucker! I don't have all day!"

Sylver was suprised at the youthfulness of his voice, he had appeared older. The grey hair had made her think at first she had cornered herself a coffin dodger. It was very much a welcome suprise to find herself with a smartly dressed youth. She also noticed on closer inspection that his eyes were two different colours. How beautiful... She thought to herself, being a lover and admirer of the strange and unusual. It was a pity she would have to be eating him soon.
As if confirming her thoughts, he held his hand up and showed her the crimson beacon she had homed in on. Her own grey eyes turned darker and filled out. Her eyes went black like a shark who had scented blood on the waves. The need to feed was becoming almost unbearable...
"I'd hate to keep you waiting," Sylver answered his taunts, her voice was slightly out of breath as she panted in anticipation for the kill. In a single, silent move, she sprang through the air at him. Claws extended as she dove towards him in a lethal pounce...

Excellent. She took the bait. Such savage and primal creatures. It was predictable that she would lunge at him like a beast. And it was exactly what he had expected her to do. What he didn't expect was how fast she would be! It suddenly occured to him that he had never fought a vampire without the element of suprise before.
He was too close to dodge her attack, so instead he thrust out his arms and grabbed her forearms. This prevented her claws from doing any damage as she landed heavily on top of him, knocking the wind out of him. He gasped for air, then looked into her sharklike eyes and chuckled.
"Now that wasn't... very nice. You are... so violent! Ah... It brings back memories."
He kept a tight grip on her forearms in an attempt to stop her from clawing at him as he struggled to regain his breath. He tried to wriggle out from under her but she was too heavy and he was out of breath.
"Hah... hah... Whew! You creatures are pretty relentless, I'll give you that."
His previously c*cky attitude was slipping away as he realised that he was in quite a predicament. He had underestimated the speed and strength of a vampire. He tried to summon up some of his power to force her off but then a more horrifying fact dawned on him. He had not used his dark powers ever since his life with Faran began. Ever since the day he met her, he lost his mastery of his power, as he no longer had a use for it.
He couldn't always make his power appear on demand! This was definately a problem! He tried to struggle harder but it was no use. He didn't have the strength to break free. Panic started to set in but he didn't let it show just yet. He kept up the c*cky smile for now.

The shadowy figure strode over the rooftop, feet making no sound in the darkness. He heard sounds of a struggle below...it made sense, as there was blood in the air. The cloaked figure peered over the edge, then dropped behind the grappling duo. A khopesh was drawn from its sheath, the matte black blade blending perfectly in the night.
The figure raised a hand, carefully aiming it. A whirl of energy struck the vampire, knocking her to the ground. The shadows seemed to bend around the figure, giving him a terrifying appearance, even to the vampire. Izin Kritnas, the Avatar of Fear, had arrived.
"Hope I wasn't interrupting anything."

Sylver cackled like a mad woman. Her fangs snapped shut just inches from his face as he held her back by her forearms. She suspected there had to be something more to the man, any mere human would have been overpowered in seconds. She could sense his strength waning gradually and pressed more into him, her legs were astide his hips as she sat and gyrated on him, making them appear like some obscene parody of a couple making love.
The fact he was still smiling irked Sylver, he was a very brave man, or insane. Though it didn't matter to Sylver, she would feed on him regardless. Her fangs were just about to reach that sweet, pulsing vein on the side of his neck...
WHAM! Something struck Sylver with the power of a magical jackhammer. She shrieked as she was sent flying off her victim and crashed into the concrete a few feet away. With a grunt she picked herself up and turned to stare daggers at the new comer. Her black eyes blazed angrily between great strands of her white hair that had been thrown over her face. Her initial fright at being so easily rused gave way to a seething fury.
"You?" She asked the shadowed figure, practically spitting her words, she recognised him instantly from his scent and the fact that she had seem him around the city. She wondered what cause the avatar of fear would have to step in to the human's defense.
"You are interrupting my dinner, my love." She laughed quietly and almost insanely as she kept a low guard with her claws ready to shred the interloper. "Go cast your illusions somewhere else, dream weaver... or I'll be finding out how sweet your blood is next!"

Mortis quickly got to his feet and scanned the newcomer who had knocked the vamp off of him. He had quite an intimidating appearance, and it was clear that the vampire was annoyed at being interrupted. In a way, he was as well. Now that he was't in immediate danger, Mortis no longer had to fake his arrogant grin.
"Hey I have to side with the bloodsucker here. We were just getting to know each other so well, right babe?"
He slyly winked at her and then turned to the new guy.
"As for you, I don't recall asking for assistance at any time. I don't need your help."
This was a troubling turn of events. It was important that the vampire did not die. He needed to interrogate her ASAP and he couldn't do that if the newcomer decided to interfere further. He hated to admit it, but if the newcomer made a move against the the vamp, he would be forced to join the fray on her side.

"Oh please." Izin sighed, whirling his khopesh slowly through the air. "I know a losing battle when I see one." His brow furrowed for a moment as he concentrated. "Just so you know, I can incapacitate Vampires quite excellently. As for killing her...well, I usually leave that particular activity to an associate of mine."
Izin grinned at the look on Mortis' face. "I can listen to your surface thoughts," He said explanatorily.

Well here was an interesting turn for the books. She raised an amused eyebrow when her victim winked at her. He really must have been some serious vampire groupie. She turned back to the strange cloaked figure. Her eyes were no longer black but their normal grey and her mouth was no longer full of sharp and dangerous points. She resembled nothing more than an ordinary girl once again... if it wasn't for the claws.
She twirled her long black dress in a girlish fasion as she moved slowly closer to the new comer, almost skipping on her bare feet. She giggled softly and smiled coyly.
"Not only does this one interrupt us... but he listens to your thoughts uninvited as well?" Sylver gasped in pretend shock and clasped her breast. "Oh the rudeness! Don't worry honey, I'll get rid of this joker then we can get back to where we were." She threw her head back and laughed before pulling a pair of daggers from some invisible pockets in her skirts.
Sylver launched herself at the shadowed figure, both knives coming down in a killing arch...

"Vampires are really stupid." Izin said from beside Mortis as Sylver flew through thin air. "Do a little false sensory input to convince them you're over there instead of right here, and there you go. Confounded bloodsucker ready for death."
He waved a hand, causing tendrils of shadow to rope around the vampire.

Mortis watched from the sideline as the two creatures began their fight. Now that he was aware that the newcomer could read his surface thoughts, he made sure not to think about anything that he didn't want him to know. He ran a running commentary inside his head, as he often did, to cover up everything else.
This guy was clearly some sort of master of illusions. That makes him one incredibly irritating opponent, as shown by his avoiding the vampire's attack. He shot out ropes of shadow to bind the woman. That wasn't good. If he restrained her it would be all over. The clock was ticking and he did not have time to find another vampire.
Whats more, what if the newcomer goes after him next? Maybe he should intervene... Wait... can't he hear this right now? Damn it! So much for the element of suprise!
"Grrr. Get out of my head you fiend!"
Well, he had no choice but to sit this one out for now. There wasn't a whole lot he could do right now anyway. if he got involved right now he'd just get in the way.

Sylver shrieked in rage as she found herself attacking thin air and then tendrils of shadow snaked across her slender pale limbs and snagged at her ankle length black dress. She felt the mage's attack tightening on her and had to act soon if she was going to have a chance of getting out of this. With lightning speed she threw one of her daggers straight at the illusionist... hoping that even if she missed his throat his lapse of concentration as he dodged her attack would mean she had a chance of freeing herself from the shadows...

"Well, you could ask me to let the vampire go." Izin said as the knife went whirling through the illusion of himself. "You could even, dare I say it, ask for my aid."

Mortis considered what he had said. Perhaps some help would come in handy, although what this guy had in mind was probably torture. He would have done that back in the day, but all he ever intended to do now was merely restrain and question her. And then maybe kill her afterwards, though he hadn't made his mind up about that.
"Stop!" He yelled. "Why are you two fighting!? I don't have time for mindless fighting right now! I need some questions answered, and I need them answered now!"
