"Ow!", a very Scottish voice shouted from that direction. "Uh-oh. That's Merlin." They ran out into the living room and found a duster clad figure, with a rather large staff in his hands, sitting on his butt and next to an overturned coffee table. "Did no one have it in their mind to tell me their was a coffee table there!?", he asked, his Scotsman accent heavy with rolled R's and a warm buttery tone to it. "Sorry, Merlin! Forgot about that!", Nikolai said. "Grace, this is Merlin Pendragon. Merlin, Grace Nuit." "Ah, a pleasure to make your acquaintance, milady! Merlin Pendragon, trickster and Mage Counsel Member, at your servess." His final word came out with an odd Irish tone to it, but he bowed over Graced extended hand and kissed the back of it." Watching this, Nikolai's eye's narrowed and a small guttural growl started in his throat."Vivamus exclusus amicus.", he said, the Latin flowing smoothly from his tongue. "Ah...right." Merlin straightened and nodded to Grace. "My apologies, milady. I presume too much. Oh, and, Nikolai!" Nikolai looked at him. "What?" "Per your norm, your syntax sucks dishwater." "Sugere in fungorum." "Ouch! Okay, I take it back. But it's true!"
One Hour Later The lights went by in a blinding rush as the car and truck moved silently down the nearly empty highway. They were still a good four hours from Red Blood and night had set for the I-77. It was standard fare. Protection from a mage or not, it was always night time on the I-77. "Well, this is fun!" Nikolai said sarcastically, as he took one hand from the driving wheel and patted his kidney region to assure himself that his nine-mil was still there. It wouldn't work very well against a vampire or other such creature, but it was still effective against almost anything else. "No kidding." Derak said over the CB radio that was in the truck and came over to them in the car. Nikolai could just see his form in the passage side seat. He had actually let Ardolf drive his baby. That surprised him, but then he had seen Derak sitting with his 8 gauge shotgun and his M-19 assault rifle...the one with the under slung 30mm grenade launcher. And he had his coffin case, the one that even Nikolai had never seen what was inside, primed and ready to open at the slightest hint of trouble. "Well, we will just have to power through. We're almost there.", Merlin said, cradling the 20 gauge shotgun that Derak had given him like a lifeline. In the back seat of the car, were Arial and Grace, each with {Insert Weapon of Choice Here}. "Indeed. But we're still four hours out." "Well....I didn't say we were almost to Red Blood, now did I?", Merlin said mischievously. "Uh-oh", came from five voices.

Grace wasn't one for any kind of weapons but Ariel had spoken with her about this before they even got into the car. She had given her an AA9126M1A Scout Squad Blk Rifle that she had from her own collection of weapons that her and Ardolf had. Ariel was wanted by an evil man so she was always ready to start a war if needed. She had Grace fire it once and she seemed to handle it well sense she was half werewolf she had the strength to hold her own with it. Ariel was pleased.
Then as for Ariel she held in her own hands was her all time favorite was the MP5. She just loves her machine guns and always made sure to have them around. Guns to her were her life.
Grace looked to Nikolai and met his eye in the mirror. She smiled at him then it slowly vanished. She couldn't believe that she was finally doing this. Going to meet her family that she longed to sense she knew she was "different." The world was weird outside of Haven and scary and from what she just heard it was about to get even scaryer.
Ardolf came over the radio. "We have company."
A group of bikers came out of no where. There was at least 12 to 15 of them in the group. The odds could go either way here. No one was truly sure how this was going to end but they sure hell would make the first move.
Ariel was the first to stick herself out the window and began to fire and you could here the joy in her screams as she did so.
Grace just sat there. She didn't know what to do. This was feeling more like it wasn't worth being here. Then a horrible pain began to take over her whole body. "No!" She yelled. When she was afraid her werewolf side took over and she couldn't control it. If she would change now it would hurt her new friends who were trying to help her but the werewolf wouldn't know that. She hugged herself tight and yelled, "We have to stop! The beast. I can't..." The pain was getting to unbearable to bare but she had to try to hold it in as long as she could. She didn't want to hurt them as she ment Nikolai eyes once more in the mirror. Now her yellow eyes looking at his. "Please stop," she cried as her hands began to transform into claws. "Hurry!" She screamed. It was almost upon her. The beast about ready to explode out and ready to destroy all in its path and everyone in it. Hungry for blood and pain to search for and to blow it away....

Nikolai didn't bat an eyelash. His nine mil came out and fired out the window, taking a biker away.
As Grace began to shout, he turned and saw her beginning to turn. "Crap. Just what we need. Merlin, take the damn wheel!"
"Right.", the mage said, firing one of his 20 gauge shells out the window into the teeth of two bikers.
He switched with Merlin. Then he switched weapons with him. Then, he switched seats with Ariel.
"Grace." He put a hand-a bare hand-on her shoulder. "I'm here. Hold on. Remember yourself."
Meanwhile, in the truck, the 8 gauge shotgun bucked in Derak's hands and burned another biker away.
"Damn it! I told Niko that I-77 was a bad, BAD idea!" He switched to the assault rifle and fired the underslung grenade. The explosion took out three more bikers.

She looked into Nikolai's eyes as her eyes were yellow as her werewolf teeth began to grow in. "I can't stop it. Please you must stop Nikolai or I will kill everyone!" She yelled as she let out another scream of pain as she tried to hold her beast inside. But she was winning and wanting so badly to come out to try to protect her from the evils around. She didn't have the beast unders control so anyone it will see will be the tragent no matter what. "Hurry, please!" Her hands began to transform into claws as fur began to appear. "Oh god no! Please no!" Her fear was threw the roof. Their was no stopping it now. Suddenly her clothes began to tare off her body as the beast began to roar.
Werewolf like claws began to swing about as the beast roared with rage to be trapped inside this car. Suddenly it leaped threw the roof making a whole and landed in the street. Two bikers came riding at her as she swung her giant paws making them fly off their biking. Three others began to ride around her as she roared and leaped at one taring him into pieces as the other two turned tale as they saw this beast destory their friend.
Suddenly Ardolf leaped from his truck and rushed over to her. "Grace, stop! Don't dont do this! You can just..."
She turned towards him and back handed him watching him fly against a tree. She then began to rush at him in attack moan ready to kill him...
Ariel appeared from the car. "Grace no!" But Grace was no longer their. It was the beast ready to get its next meal and Ardolf was right in its path ready to destory. Ariel got out her dart and began to place them in her rifle before it was to lake to stop her. She raised it and took aim but another vampire knocked to gun from her hands. "No! Ardolf!" She jumped from the car and rushed over to the gun hoping she would pick it up and fire before it was to late...

You know...Derak is SO going to say "I told you so.", Nikolai thought mordantly.
"Alright. I've had enough of this.", he shouted. He pulled a rifle from the back of the car, stood up out of the hole in the roof and rose one hand to the heavens.
"Mater procellis, videte vocationem meam et percutiat inimicos meos!" Power gathered and swirled. Nikolai was a fairly newbie mage, but he certainly had the knowledge to throw down with the best of them.
His only limiter was his blood. Mage work just wasn't in it.
That didn't stop him from being impressive when he tried. And he didn't need much when he did something like, oh, invoke one of the ancient Creators. In this case, the Mother of Storms.
And then there was the little fact that this was the I-77. Several lightning bolts - and their accompanying thunder - turned the last bikers to piles of ash. Then, he leveled the rifle at Grace and murmured "Forgive me, my love."
And fired. Suddenly, a blossom of red exploded from Grace's side...the red feathering of a tranquilizer dart.
He racked the bolt and readied it again. He'd seen Derak take at least four of the damn things and keep on fighting. He would prefer not to do it again, but...
His concern was unwarranted. Grace stumbled and fell over...then he saw the dart from Ariel's gun, as well.
"Well...this is fun!", he said, repeating his comment from about 15 minutes ago. He hauled himself out of the car and dropped to the ground. He slunk over to Grace and made sure she was okay. As he checked her pulse, she shifted back to human and he winced.
She hadn't taken any stray bullets or anything, but she was still cut up from tearing the roof open and then leaping out of the car.
"Merlin, little magic here?"
"Aye, lad. Move aside." His hands hovered over Grace and he muttered a couple of words of Latin under his breath. Her wounds sealed and the small amounts of blood vanished. "Did what I could. She should wake up soon. Poor lass." He went over to Ardolf and did what he could.
"Thank you." Nikolai picked Grace up and slid her gently into the back seat of the car. Then his eyes found the hole in the roof. "Damn it...." He sighed. "Merlin? I don't have the juice to fix this."
"Yeah...I got that." Another few words of Latin and the roof was fixed.
"Alright. Let's get the hell off this road. We're taking the next exit." He felt, more than saw, Derak's decision to say something. "Don't say 'I told you so.'"
"I....uh...I wholeheartedly agree....", he said, changing his words in mid-sentence.
Niko slid into the back of the car and sat with Grace. Merlin took the wheel. Derak took the truck's wheel and they set off again...

Ariel got the shot off but it wasn't enough. Luckly for her that Nikolai was just as fast. Grace went down, hard. The vampires disappeared, thank goodness but there was still so much cleaning up to do. Ariel went over to Grace as Nikolai was there at the same time. Grace's werewolf retreated back inside as her naked form laid there on the ground on top of Ardolf. He had cuts and brusies from the inpact of Grace's wolf slamming into him. Ariel took off her long coat and placed it around her as Nikolai then picked her up and took her away back to the car.
Ariel just watched in silence how he handle her and smiled. Looking back at Ardolf he asked her why she was smiling.
"Nikolai is in love with Grace."
"How...how could you possibly know that?" Ardolf asked her.
"Because I've seen you give me that look and how gently you've carried me after...well, I just know."
Nikolai's friend had come over and healed him then went over to the car and fixed that with magic. Ardolf wasnt one for magic but it seemed to be helping so he didn't say anything. They stood and made their way over to the truck.
"How's Grace?" Ariel asked hoping she was ok. It has been one hell of a roller coaster, she thought. To much crap but hopefully they will get to the house soon.

"Still out cold, but if my experiences with Derak is any indication, she should come too soon."
Nikolai looked at Grace's almost gentle, peaceful expression. "I think after she meets her family, she should spend some time with Derak's family. They teach their pack how to better control the wolf inside. Hell, it helped me some, and I don't have a drop of wolf blood as far as I know."
He fell silent then, wondering if he would survive loving this woman...

"That's good," Ardolf said, "I think its time now we head out before anymore unwelcomed vistiors show up." He and Ariel walked over to the other car and got in. Now following the other truck they fell into silence until they got onto the new road before Ariel broke in again.
"I hope she will be ok," Ariel said with concern in her tone.
"She will be," Ardolf replyed, "I know Nikolai cares for her. He will not let anything or anyone harm her just like I wont let anything happen to you. I love you Ariel. With all my heart. Nothing will ever change that."
Ariel leaned over and kissed his cheek. "I love you too." She laid her head on his shoulder and they looked out the windshield as they continued to follow the truck.
.................
Grace was twiching as her eyes remained closed. As she dreamed, panic over came her as she felt her beasts power claws digging into the earth as it rushed at Ardolf. The fear in his eyes as she was just a yard away before darkness. Now, she wasn't sure what was going on. A silhouette stood over her as she tried to focus on the face it slowly began to disappear and Nikolai's face began clear.
"Nikolai," she whisped as she managed a smile. "What happened?" She remembers that they were under attack but anything after that was a blurr to her. As long as no one she cared about got hurt she was fine.

"Shhh, my love. You Changed and got a bit...out of control." He grimaced. "We had to pump you full of tranqs to keep you from tearing Ardolf's throat out...not exactly my favorite thing in the world to do, my love. I think I know where we'll go after we see your family, though!", he said with a grin, trying to brush past the tranquilizer event.
The car pulled off the highway and into a small podunk town about a hundred miles out of Red Blood.
"Alright, this town isn't even on the map, Niko...what do we do?", Derak's voice came from the front seat.
"We hole up and wait for dawn. Since we're off the - wait...did you say it wasn't on the map?"
"Yeah."
"On the map I gave you?"
"Yeah...why?"
"sh*t ! Turn around! NOW!" He snagged the hand held unit for the Citizen's Band radio and screamed into it. "ARDOLF! TURN AROUND!"
It was such a small thing to cause so much trouble, Nikolai would think later, when he wasn't in the middle of it. A spark. Just tiny blip of light. But it was right in the middle of the road. It exploded in a briliant flare of light and flame, directly in between the two cars. It didn't encompass either of them, but the force was more than enough to throw both cars off the road, with Derak's truck skidding to a halt.
Nikolai's car was a bit less lucky...it caught the blast mostly under it's front fender...throwing it directly up, at least at the front. The result was that the car flipped. Not once, but twice...and somehow, miraculously, landing on it's wheel's again. However, those same wheels were not designed to very suddenly take the weight of a ton plus of car moving down at a goodly speed.
The near gunshot explosion of each of the wheels was terrifyingly loud. Derak let loose a howl of frustration and anger as he threw the car into park and climbed out.
"Great...just great.", he growled under his breath.
"Grace? You okay?" Niko asked softly, his own heart beating rapidly as the adrenalin began to rush out of his system.

Grace just looked up at him in disbelief. How could she have let herself turn? Then the fight between them and the vampires on their bikes came back to her. Looking up at he beloved Nikolai, it all happened so fast. Her head felt like jello. As she looked at Nikolai. It was hard to understand his words sense her ears were ringing from the sudden explosion. After transforming everything always seemed louder.
Looking at his lips she nodded that she was ok. As he helped her out Ariel rushed over and began to talk to her. Grace pointed at her ears and then covered them. Ariel looked to Nikolai and Ardolf as they nodded and she took her to the other truck. Ariel found a piece of paper and a pen and wrote, "Are your ears ringing?"
Grace nodded yes.
Ariel wrote, "It happens after transforming. The senses become more alter which loud noises like a blast become unbearable."
Grace side as they got into the back of the truck.
...........
Ardolf watched them walk away and then turned toward Nikolai as he asked, "Ok what the hell do we do now?!"

"No flipping clue. Maybe Merlin can-"
"Nope....the moment after that DFB went off, an anti-magic field went up. There is a lot of power behind it too. Until we can get the cars fixed - and fixed the old fashion way - we're stuck here."
"DFB?", Derak asked.
"Delayed Fireball.", Merlin and Nikolai said in unison.
"Walking? Can we push the cars out of the field?"
"Not likely. It's centered on us and feels....big."
"Wait. A coven. If we convene a coven, we might be able to bust out.", Niko suggested.
"Great idea. Except that the only covenable people here are you and me. It's too weak."
"Teleportation into the field works, right?"
"If done right, yeah."
"Then let's call some people up. We got cellphones."
"Might work. I got a couple of markers we can call in."
"Same here."
"Let's get to work."
Nikolai went over to Ardolf and Ariel. "Hey, you guys know any mages? We're gonna see if we can call them in for a coven. With enough power, we might be able to bust out of here."

Ariel looked at Ardolf who nodded. "Yeah, I might know someone." He got on the phone and began to make a phone call.
Ariel smiled softly at Nikolai as she got him alone. "Do you love her?" She whispered so no one else could hear their words. "I know you do. I can sense it. She does too. My only concern is if you do not want to lose her with all this then let her truly know it. Not with words but with your actions. Helping to find her family is a great start but you really need to show you how much you love her." She looked over at Ardolf. "Otherwise they will let you go to make mistakes." She looked back at him. "Its not worth making those mistakes. Show her." Ariel then walked over to Grace. "How are you doing?"
"I feel like this is all my fault. If I didn't want to come here then..."
Ariel hugged her. "Don't you even say that. Its ok sweet girl." She pulled back and knelt before her. "Listen to me. You need to meet her. Amira is an amazing woman. What she has done and still does for everyone is beyond words. It was crazy that you're mother would keep such a secret from you. Please understand that this really needs to happen. For both of you."
Grace nodded. She then looked up seeing Nikolai looking at her. Smiling softly she looked back at Ariel. "Thank you Ariel. That really helps." She stood and walked off but not to far. They could still see her but Grace needed to focus on her thoughts. With everything that has and will happen with her life, with such a huge change she needed to wrap her head around as much as she could. Her first and for most thought was 'what was the first thing she was going to say to Amira.' That was all she could think about. Hopefully before they met face to face she would know just what she was going to say.

Niko nodded at Ariel. "Seems like bad timing to me, though.", he said, fingering the box still in his duster's pocket.
Suddenly, a pop of displaced air turns all heads to the new arrival.
"Hey, mon! I be hearing you having a bit o' trouble, Halfhand! How can Dwali be helping you, mon?" The almost sterotypical black Jamaican man strode forward, staff of wrought iron cradled in the crook of his arm.
Another pop of air.
"Niko! I hear you in bind! I come and find you. And you need help. And I say, Da, Tovarish! Da! Ivan will help Jovanovich!"
Another pop. And another. And a third one. Thus totalling the help that Nikolai, Derak and Merlin could bring forth.
----------
"Send them in.", the voice said from the shadows.
"As you command, my master.", a gravely voice said.
----------
Nikolai surveyed the land around them. The small town, village, really, was...odd. It lacked the lived in quality of every town Niko had ever seen...including ghost towns.
So. He had a town not on his Navigator's Map, which constantly shifted itself to show new roads, towns, cities, buildings, ect. He had a trap which had been obviously set for them. The bait had been...the exit. He checked the map.
Damn it! The exit isn't on here either. He folded a part of the map over and pulled open an acordion flap, which had seemed to simply appear out of the map. He read down the long list and swore again.
The telepath folded the paper back into a neat five inch by eleven inch packet, resembling a typical map packet, and slid it into one of his inner duster pockets.
He pulled out what appeared to be a pocket watch, looked at it, gazed at the sky, obviously taking points of reference.
He cursed his luck. In about two hours, a full moon would rise. Not only that, but it was exactly one moon away from a Blood Moon. The moon ought to be tinted slightly red tonight, thus it's power would make werewolves more powerful...but they would, while have higher control than normal, once they snapped, they became quiet hostile and difficult to control...add to that the fact that werewolves HAD to shift on the full moon, whether they wanted to or not and you had a very dangerous situation on your hands.
Damn. Damn. Damn. Bloody hell.
